Le Vent du Nord

Le Vent du Nord

Le Vent du Nord - Têtu

Considered a driving force in progressive folk, Le Vent du Nord captures the energy and mirth of a Saturday night kitchen party, infusing old Québec with a breath of fresh, cosmopolitan air.

Since its founding in 2002, Le Vent du Nord have become compelling Francophone ambassadors, winning critical acclaim and audience adoration across Europe and North America. The quartet has performed well over 1,000 concerts, racking up several prestigious awards, including two Junos (Canada’s Grammys), a Canadian Folk Music Award, and 'Artist of the Year'  at the North American Folk Alliance Annual Gala.

The band delivers catchy songs and tunes, some taken from the Québec traditional folk repertoire while others are original compositions. The group has a rich and varied instrumentation, well-polished musical arrangements, and wonderful vocals.

New show «Têtu»

Following the Tromper le temps concert, which reached and delighted a wider audience and was a huge success in both Paris and New York, Le Vent du Nord is back on the road with a new show. With an ever-growing popularity, attributed to the authenticity of the band’s approach and an amazing chemistry, the band members explore roots music as a style allowing them to anchor their own musical traditions into the present. These stage accomplices play their “stubborn” songs (chansons têtues, in French), never shying away from political issues, love stories, or even satire. Ranging from soft a capella songs to very sophisticated arrangements, the musical world of Le Vent du Nord is rich indeed.

For an even more spectacular soundscape, we recommend the concert in which the band is accompanied by a string quartet. You will be delighted by the quality of the stage performance of eight seasoned musicians, and by the rich orchestrations of the songs from their latest album.

Symphonic concert

LE VENT DU NORD offers a full-length symphonic version of their concert in which all the songs are arranged for a symphony orchestra. It is a stunning fusion of two worlds, where the songs and music from the oral tradition meet the great orchestral music! Here, the strings and the woodwinds lift the melodies and choruses to new heights, giving audiences an unforgettable panorama of the band’s musical universe. A unique concert, as well as an exceptional experience. Program also available with arrangements for two string quartets only.

In a school context, LE VENT DU NORD also offers music classes in which student can have a close look at the orchestration of some of the songs from the latest album. See video

« All four of the quartet are superb singers: their voices are rich and buzzy and they roam through beguiling minor-mode harmonies (...).Their instrumentals are fearless, too, with furious reels flung from hurdy-gurdy, accordion and fiddle and powered by deft foot-tapping percussion from Olivier Demers. (...) bright energy was all Le Vent themselves » Kate Molleson, 4 STARS * * * *, The Herald Glasgow, Jan, 19, 2015
« This was music with a very deep Celtic influence. Imagine Irish or Scottish tunes played with more than a touch of French style and élan, tempered by Canadian gentleness and civility, all underpinned with the highest quality musicianship, and you start to get the idea » Peter Harlow, Jan 27, 2015, Cornish Guardian ( UK)
